Bro i started studying 5 months before SHSAT and i got in. How long you study doesn't matter. What matters is you use your study time to learn and master as many material as possible. Make sure u review all the topics you are struggling with and do practice questions.SHSAT 2022 Cutoffs (not confirmed by DOE) SITHS this year offered a lot of 10th grade (transfer) seats. I wouldn't mix SAT prep with SHSAT if I could avoid it. There is of course some overlap, but there is also overlap with the NY State Test and I'd be hard pressed to say the NY State Test and the SHSAT are comparable if you know what I mean.
I recommend trying to read as many articles as you can leading up to the test. That way you are more prepared for the extremely boring articles the shsat gives you. Also do those articles first and do fiction last. The SHSAT allowed black, brown, and latin kids in Tech for decades as majority, so the SHSAT is not the problem although it's not only acting as an admissions exam but as a diagnostic tool on the state of the NYC DOE. This is a fact; please don't say this was not the case either. And I saw it with my own eyes to boot.

Practice on top with the SHSAT handbooks (2019-2021 is good). Do some 6th, 7th, and 8th grade course challenges on khan academy. Watch Bobby Tariq and Tyler Tutor videos on YouTube. This is more than enough for the 8th grade SHSAT.
